SEPTEMBER 8, 2019 – Montego Bay, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Agriculture, Audley Shaw, JAMPRO president Dianne Edwards, and Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica president, Howard Mitchell have strongly endorsed CanEx Jamaica Business Conference & Expo 2019, set for the Montego Bay Convention Centre, September 26-28.
All three were speakers at the launch of CanEx Jamaica 2019, the preeminent cannabis conference in the Caribbean and Latin America, at the Spanish Court Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica on Wednesday, September 4.
Shaw noted that Jamaica cannot afford to get left behind the fast moving train that is the global cannabis industry.
“This event (CanEx Jamaica) is an important feature for all of us because as entrepreneurs, it will enable us to engage and get involved in this fast growing global industry,” said Shaw.
The Cannabis Licensing Authority in Jamaica has already issued 44 marijuana licenses and 288 conditional approvals since it was established in 2015.
JAMPRO president, Dianne Edwards, said Jamaica is poised to capitalise on the global medical cannabis industry with the aid of events such as CanEx, which is able to attract high calibre participants such as former Mexican president Vicente Fox, Cam Battley, Bruce Linton, and Steve De Angelo, who are some of the most influential leaders in the global cannabis industry.
“JAMPRO supports conferences like CanEx, where through consistent delivery of a high quality product, you are able to attract world-class keynote speakers and subject matter experts …who are serious about the growth and development of the cannabis industry,” Edwards said.
President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, Mitchell, who delivered the keynote address at Wednesday’s launched, urged government and the private sector not to corrupt or pollute Jamaica’s indigenous ganja strains.
“Let us have a clear idea of what it is we produce, what belongs to is, what is propriety to us and don’t let anybody come and take it away. We can do it,” he said.
Meanwhile, CanEx Jamaica founder Douglas K Gordon said that the cannabis industry has the potential to change people’s lives.
“It would be a travesty if we were not able to collaborate and move this industry forward. Empowering people who have lived with huge income disparity the opportunity to go out there and earn their ticket …is something that should not be overlooked,” he said.
